Subaru has signed a three-year agreement with the WorldSBK Championship to introduce the Subaru Solterra as the new official safety car starting this season. This partnership marks a milestone, as the Solterra will be the first electric vehicle to take on this role in the premier production-derived motorcycle racing series.
The Subaru Solterra is a significant step for the brand, as it is its first and only fully electric model. Developed in collaboration with Toyota, which also launched the bZ4X twin, this SUV measures 460 cm in length and features a 64 kWh battery paired with a dual-motor setup, delivering a combined output of 219 horsepower. With one motor on the front axle and another on the rear, the Solterra offers all-wheel drive for reliable performance in any condition.
During race weekends, the Solterra will be used in various scenarios, including track inspections before sessions and quick responses to on-track incidents. However, Subaru's involvement goes beyond the racetrack. The Japanese brand will offer fans, media, and enthusiasts the chance to enjoy unique experiences, such as test drives and presentations within a dedicated hospitality area. Here, attendees can get an up-close look at the Solterra and Subaru's cutting-edge technologies while participating in exclusive activities designed to showcase the brand's innovation.
