The final round of the Extrema Night Series, the evening championship organized by Futura Corse at Extrema Kart Speedway, took place on Tuesday, September 17th, despite the high risk of rain. Fortunately, the bad weather did not hit the track in Massa Finalese, allowing for a very fast race due to the optimal temperatures. The newly formed Cavalieri Garage Racing ASD was present at the starting line with Simone Marchetti, competing in the Sport category.
RACE
A 10-minute qualifying session and a 30-lap Iron race without mandatory pit stops formed the format, with 20 drivers split into two heats. On a very fast track, Marchetti clocked a time of 44"882, earning him sixth position in the qualifying heat and ninth overall in the combined rankings, which meant he qualified for the A heat, reserved for the fastest drivers.
The race started, and it was immediately clear how competitive the pack of 10 drivers in Group A was, battling fiercely throughout much of the early phase. Simone Marchetti made several overtakes, gaining 5 positions in the first 4 laps. The intense fight continued, with numerous position changes among the ten drivers, until lap 14. At turn 2, six competitors attempted to enter side-by-side. Unfortunately, Simone Marchetti was the one to suffer, forced into a rough pass over a curb, damaging his drive chain and coming to a stop at the edge of the track.
After switching karts, he finished the race in ninth position, one lap down. The good news came from the championship standings, aided by the technical issues and retirement of his direct rival, Stefano Ferri. Simone Marchetti finished third in the Sport category standings of the Extrema Night Series, having only competed in two out of four races.
