The FIA Formula 3 Championship unveiled the new F3 2025 car to the international media during an event in the Formula 1 paddock at Monza. This new model, which will be used in the 2025, 2026, and 2027 seasons, has been designed to offer young drivers the opportunity to progress in their careers, aiming to compete in Formula 2 and Formula 1. The design of the F3 2025 car aligns with the technical regulations of F2 and F1, ensuring similar levels of safety, advanced systems, and high performance while keeping costs manageable.
The car meets the latest FIA safety standards and is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.4-liter Mecachrome engine with six cylinders, capable of delivering 380 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. It is designed to run on advanced fuel developed by Aramco, which is being engineered to meet the FIA’s fully sustainable fuel standards by 2025. This type of fuel, which will also be used in Formula 2, marks a significant step toward Formula 1's goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. The Dallara F3 2025 will utilize 16-inch Pirelli tires, made with a component of natural rubber certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), starting in 2025.
Another key aspect of the Dallara F3 2025 design is optimizing overtaking capabilities to ensure more exciting races. The cockpit has been redesigned to enhance ergonomics, allowing for optimal adaptation to drivers of various body types. The car will feature systems such as the Virtual Safety Car (VSC), an optimized Drag Reduction System (DRS), and a new Marelli Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), similar to the one currently used in Formula 2.
The F3 2025 model successfully passed a shakedown test last June in Varano, with former Formula 2 driver Tatiana Calderon at the wheel. Since then, it has covered 2,000 kilometers in further development tests. Following the official unveiling, the development program will continue for the rest of the year. The first car will be delivered to the teams by the end of December 2024, with two more to follow in mid-January 2025. Teams and drivers will have the opportunity to test the new car during the official pre-season testing at the beginning of 2025.
