MONACO MASTERCLASS: ANTONELLI DELIVERS ANOTHER STATEMENT WIN FOR MERCEDES

Andrea Kimi Antonelli continues to write a season that already feels like the stuff of legend. The young driver from Bologna claimed victory in the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix, the sixth round of the Formula 1 World Championship, delivering another dominant performance that further confirms his extraordinary form.

If his pole position on Saturday had already captured the imagination of fans, Sunday's race showcased an even more mature and complete Antonelli. In an event marked by incidents, Safety Cars, interruptions, and a late red flag that reshuffled the field, the 19-year-old Mercedes star remained firmly in control from start to finish, never giving his rivals a real opportunity.

The victory marks Antonelli’s fifth consecutive win and his fifth triumph in six races during the 2026 season, an astonishing run that allows him to extend his lead in the championship standings. Around the streets of Monte Carlo, the Italian driver completed a remarkable Grand Chelem: pole position, race victory, fastest lap, and leadership of every lap of the race.

His starts, often considered one of the few remaining areas for improvement, proved decisive. This time, Antonelli was flawless both at the initial launch and at the restart following the red flag, immediately creating the gap needed to control the race without taking unnecessary risks. The pace displayed by the No. 12 Mercedes was simply untouchable for the rest of the field.

The Monaco weekend became even more favorable thanks to the struggles of teammate George Russell. The British driver, hindered by a difficult qualifying session and a costly team error during the race, finished well outside the points after receiving a Drive-Through penalty in the closing stages. The result allows Antonelli to further strengthen his position at the top of the championship standings with an increasingly significant advantage.

The Monaco victory also secures Antonelli’s place in Italian motorsport history. The Emilia-Romagna native becomes only the third Italian driver to win the Monaco Grand Prix in Formula 1, following the achievements of Riccardo Patrese and Jarno Trulli, joining one of the sport’s most exclusive clubs.

Behind him, Lewis Hamilton finished second for Ferrari, benefiting from the early retirement of Max Verstappen’s Red Bull, which suffered a technical issue in the opening moments of the race. It was a disappointing day for hometown hero Charles Leclerc, whose race ended just a handful of laps from the finish after contact with the barriers at the exit of Anthony Noghès.

The final podium position was provisionally occupied by Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar, who remains under investigation for a potential infringement during the red-flag period. Behind him came Oscar Piastri’s McLaren, followed by the Racing Bulls entries of Liam Lawson and Arvin Lindblad.

Among the notable retirees was reigning World Champion Lando Norris, whose McLaren suffered reliability problems that forced him out of contention. But once again in Monaco, there was only one name dominating the headlines: Andrea Kimi Antonelli, the young star turning the 2026 Formula 1 season into a masterpiece of his own making.
