Alex Palou dominates the fourth round of the NTT IndyCar Series at Barber Motorsport Park, emphatically repeating last year’s success and confirming himself as the absolute benchmark of the weekend. A flawless performance, built from qualifying and managed without the slightest mistake.
The Spanish driver for Chip Ganassi Racing set the tone as early as Saturday, claiming pole position in the Honda #10 and then maintaining firm control of the race from start to finish. In a caution-free race, the only real threat came from Christian Lundgaard in the McLaren #7.
The Danish driver closed the gap during the final pit stop phase, taking advantage of lapped traffic to reduce the margin to the leader. It looked like the fight could reopen, but an issue with the right rear wheel during the final pit stop took him out of contention for the win, effectively clearing the way for Palou.
Lundgaard still managed to defend second place, completing a decisive pass on Graham Rahal with three laps to go. The American finished third after holding off late attacks from David Malukas in the Penske #12. Rounding out the top five were Kyle Kirkwood and Marcus Armstrong, followed by Scott Dixon and Santino Ferrucci.
For Palou, this marks his third career victory at the Alabama circuit and his 21st overall win in IndyCar across 102 starts. A dominance that once again certifies his extraordinary consistency at the highest level, along with his second win of the season after St. Petersburg, to which are added a retirement in Phoenix and a podium finish in Arlington.
The championship will return in mid-April on the streets of Long Beach Street Circuit, the next proving ground for a Palou who is increasingly the leader and reference point of the series.
