As it does every year, the Monaco GP arrives right on cue: the most anticipated — and, let’s be honest, at times the most overrated — event of the season. The tight confines of the Principality are familiar territory to anyone who follows Formula 1. No need for too much build-up: the race itself will remind us why, amid yachts and glitz, the real show often takes place on Saturday.

Because yes, it's qualifying that truly defines this weekend. Whoever takes pole has a great shot at staying there all the way to the checkered flag. And with Verstappen as hungry as ever over a single lap, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him seize the opportunity to close the gap in the standings to the increasingly solid McLaren duo.

McLaren, in fact, arrives under the spotlight: strong performances, a car in great shape, and growing ambitions. But around Monaco’s unforgiving walls, even a tiny mistake can cost dearly. That’s why any predictions remain up in the air until both drivers make it through Saturday unscathed.

Behind them, Mercedes will try to fight its way back, eager to bounce back after a tough weekend in Imola. It may not be a turning point for their season, but a solid result here would definitely boost morale. Ferrari, on paper, doesn’t come in as a favorite: poor synergy with slow corners and struggles over a single lap don’t bode well. It’s the kind of combination that could turn the whole weekend into an uphill battle. That said, the absence of the need to compromise on setup could turn out to be a small trump card.

As for the rest of the grid, attention will mainly be on the rookies. Given the nature of the track, we shouldn’t rule out a few tough moments for them. It’ll be interesting to see whether veterans like Alonso or Hulkenberg can shine in Monaco’s structured chaos.

Another potential wildcard? Rain, which is currently forecast right for qualifying. And that, looking on the bright side, could shake things up a bit — maybe even give Verstappen the perfect chance to pull off a masterstroke. Who knows, maybe it’ll even earn him a dinner invitation from the Prince after the race.

And let’s not forget the new rule: two mandatory pit stops during the race, with penalties for non-compliance. A curious twist, adding yet another layer to Monaco’s unique folklore.

So, happy race weekend to all. Hang in there — next stop is Montmeló, where the real season might finally begin.
